Integrity

Integrity seems to be an important value as we walk in the light of God’s word. It is a matter of being true to who God made us to be: His design. I have heard integrity described as who I am when I am alone and no one is watching. It means that I remain the same person whether I am with people or not.

Integrity is a value that employers look for, parents build into their children, and pastors teach their congregation. The Bible tells us in the book of Proverbs that a person is known by their integrity. This leads me to ask myself, “ Do people know me as honest, trustworthy, sincere, authentic, loving, kind, joyful …or do they know me as a liar, spreading discord, selfish, rude or perhaps grumpy all the time?”

Walking in the light with integrity is living righteous. It is demonstrating the life Jesus modeled for us as He walked the earth. It includes taking up our cross and dying daily. There is cost to do what is right when the things around us seem to be going the opposite way. I could lose a friend if I don’t do what they want of me. I could lose income if I am honest to return what is not rightfully due to me.

I want others to see Jesus in me. I want people to be able to understand that I live my life according to the word of God and it shows. I want a clean heart like David penned in the Psalms “create in me a clean heart oh God and renew a right spirit within me.”

Integrity: let us examine ourselves according to the word of God, not what might be socially acceptable.

Let us be cleansed of those things which so easily ensnare us. Let us be pleasing to God as His delightful children, His inheritance!
